A question that is often heard, as if the use by famous brands decrees the validity of one software system over another. I can only be a bit polemical and sarcastic in answering this question. Let’s start by saying that there are updated rankings regarding the use of the most renowned CMSs, where WordPress has always reigned supreme and consequently in the ecommerce field WooCommerce. This data also says nothing about the quality of the CMS; otherwise, it would be easy to compare Windows to Linux and Microsoft Office to Libre Office, solely based on commercial success. Libre Office can be far superior, but if in schools and offices MS Office dominates, the cost of training staff is the first obstacle, meaning the Microsoft product is more widespread because few know how to use the products of its competitors.

The mechanism of success of these CMSs is the same, namely training and habitual use. This is precisely why WooCommerce is more widely used even among large brands. Large companies rely on communication agencies for the creation of their ecommerce, and these often use WordPress, simply because they know it better than other CMSs. Ironically, even the Shopify platform has achieved rapid success thanks to this mechanism, as communication agencies are heavily skewed towards the marketing side and consequently look for simple and ready-made alternative solutions.

PrestaShop Sites

When it comes to large organizations, what matters is the training of the staff that will manage e-commerce; it is easier to find professionals who know how to work with WordPress and WooCommerce than with PrestaShop, Magento, or other CMS. Unfortunately, this also applies when relying on Web Agencies and communication agencies.

DO THE BIG BRANDS HAVE A REAL INTEREST IN SELLING ONLINE?

The real question is this: do brands focus more on image or on selling online independently? Many of these large brands have no interest in selling their products online, often being out of market in terms of prices compared to their official retailers. In fact, for the sales channel, they either find a direct agreement with AMAZON delegating all online sales management to the Marketplace, or they make agreements with official retailers already present in the market. In these cases, any ecommerce, with minimal functions or in simple showcase mode, is more than sufficient; the real sales channel is elsewhere.

Those truly interested in selling online often have custom systems developed, highly integrated with their management systems and designed to perfectly integrate with their business model.

SO WHAT TO USE FOR YOUR ECOMMERCE?

It depends, the real question is whether it's better to do it alone or rely on a Web Agency. Creating an ecommerce is like opening a physical store, therefore there is a need to rely on professionals: real estate agents and construction companies for the premises, electricians and plumbers for compliant systems, consultants and accountants, etc...

We may have a rough idea for our store, request certain features, but in the end, the materials and tools used to create everything should be left to those who will do the work. Besides the quality of tools and materials, the knowledge of the professionals themselves greatly affects the outcome. Being PrestaShop developers and an official PrestaShop agency, it is obvious that we can guarantee the best result at the best price with this CMS. What really matters are the actual skills of those who will develop your ecommerce; the rest is just bar talk.

Rather than asking which big brands use PrestaShop, let's ask ourselves who the big brands turn to and if we can rely on the same communication companies that support them. In other words, who they trust and not what they use.
