A well-built product sheet (as we have seen is very important) needs to be completed with related products and accessories, partly to provide the customer with additional information that may encourage them to purchase more products, and partly because this is favored by search engines. PrestaShop integrates the ability to add products from the same category, recently viewed products, and best sellers together (Cross selling) with the product that the customer is viewing. However, the included modules are somewhat impractical and limited.

Let's take a look together at the existing modules and some alternative solutions.

Products in the same category

A free module present in all PrestaShop installations, the module has always (since PrestaShop version 1.6) suffered from issues related to Smarty cache management. In PrestaShop version 1.7, it is necessary to exclude the cache by editing the module itself; otherwise, it will not display descriptions and prices. Unfortunately, the module causes a degradation in loading times. As valid as it may seem, it should be uninstalled.

It is worth noting that automatically displaying products from the same category is not very useful; the product sheet should also be carefully curated in the selection of related products.

Related Products / Accessories

Surely the most useful native functionality of PrestaShop. We can manually add related products to the product - great for optimizing the product sheet - this function is often used to indicate useful accessories to extend or complete the product.

Related Product Modules available on PrestaShop Addons

On PrestaShop Addons, there are several modules for managing related products. In this brief guide, we present those that we believe are the most useful.

Art Brand Products

The first module we present is our Art Brand Module, which allows not only the display of the brand on the product sheet and the generation of a visually impactful brand page but also shows the items from the same manufacturer/brand on the product sheet.

Related Products

The FME Modules module allows you to add product carousels to the product sheet according to different rules, thus enabling the display of similar products and increasing the average cart value, which is the true purpose of related products.

Modules included in the iqit-commerce Warehouse template

The template Warehouse - Responsive Prestashop is currently one of the best (if not the best) themes for PrestaShop 1.7, already great in its version for PrestaShop 1.6, extends the integration of Elementor, a very famous page builder in the world of the WordPress CMS.

Cross-selling

With the installation of the Template, iqit-commerce includes a rich and valid package of modules for PrestaShop, among which is IQITCROSSELING, which once activated will show our customers the products sold together with the displayed product. The - products purchased together - will also be displayed in the confirmation pop-up for adding to the cart and at checkout. There are many similar modules, but this one, being perfectly integrated into the template, is excellent.

Using Elementor Page Builder

Elementor Page Builder is also available as a PrestaShop Module that can be installed on almost all PrestaShop Templates. However, in the Warehouse - Responsive PrestaShop template, it is perfectly integrated. We can use Elementor for every aspect of our ecommerce, not just the Home Page, Categories, and CMS Pages, but also to graphically edit - Drag and drop - the description of our product sheet.

To edit the description with Elementor, we just need to click on "Add extended content with Elementor", the big purple button below the summary (short description) of the product.

By selecting the Product List / Slider Widget and inserting it (by dragging it into a SECTION), we can add a product carousel, either as a manual selection or as category products, bestsellers, and new products.

The potential of Elementor in creating product pages is very broad; the same blog article you are reading was created using this Page Builder. The only limit is your imagination.
