The backup of PrestaShop via Plesk is a simple and safe operation, which can be carried out independently even on remote resources: FTP, DropBox or Google Drive. Making a backup on remote devices protects not only from server hardware failure, but also from any accidents within the Web Farm, for example a fire such as occurred at OVH in 2021.

The procedure shown in this guide is suitable for saving any CMS including WordPress and Joomla, as well as any data including email, configured in your HOSTING PLESK .

Log in to Plesk

The first thing to do is to log in to Plesk, with the provided credentials.

Once logged in, the subscriptions that are part of our subscription will appear, select the "All subscriptions" drop-down menu at the top right and select the subscription we want to backup.

Click on Backup and Restore and if we have not yet configured a remote archive where to save our e-commerce in PrestaShop, click on: Remote storage settings .

This will give us the options on which we can make our backup. These options may be different depending on the hosting agreement signed.

Just select the desired option for example Dropbox Backup and follow the on-screen instructions. It is important that the remote archive has enough space to store our backup. For an ecommerce in PrestaShop it is generally sufficient to have an archive of 100 / 200GB in order to be able to archive a history as well.

Once configured we will see under the service - in the example Google Drive Backup - the word Ready for use. Now we just need to click on Backup Manager, to return to the previous screen. Where we are going to select the item "Back Up", the first one that appears in the list.

We do not need to change much from the Backup screen, just select our remote archive under "Store in" and then press OK. Optional choice between Full or Incremental backup, if we select this item Plesk will back up only the files modified since the last backup made. This option is excellent for scheduled backups, in order to occupy the Server as little as possible.

Curiosity, the PrestaShop backup via Plesk is faster and more secure than the backup made with the 1-Click Upgrade module to upgrade PrestaShop.

Depending on the type of Plesk hosting, we may or may not have the ability to perform local backups or schedule backups at a certain time. The local backup is only useful if it is used only as a backup copy before updating the version of the CMS in use.

To our customers with a PrestaShop assistance contract we do not recommend carrying out the restoration independently, if necessary ask us for assistance via technical assistance ticket.

Once the backup is finished it will already be present on our remote archive - in the example Google Drive - we can still download it locally on our PC by clicking on the green arrow on the right. Important download via HTTP protocol does not guarantee data integrity, better download it via Google Drive.
